According to him, we have in Lviv Oblast a unique educational institution, the Catholic University, which is the only one of its kind in the post-Soviet space.

“All the Catholic universities in other countries, even Japan, are financed by the state. Only our UCU receives not a single hryvnia of state funds. I would like the deputies of the regional council to find a way through appropriate programs to support the institution which is very actively developing. And if our deputies of the Supreme Council manage to obtain some financing for some programs of UCU, it would be a great advantage,” said Mr. Sadovyi.

The Ukrainian Catholic University is an open academic community of the Eastern Christian tradition training leaders of society, professionals who are to serve in Ukraine and outside it. The university was built on the tradition of the theological education of the Kyivan Church open both to the eastern and western theology. UCU is the successor of the Greek Catholic Theological Academy established in Lviv by Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky and the Ukrainian Catholic University established in Rome by Patriarch Josyf Slipyj. The university is open to representatives of all churches and denominations. Greek Catholics, Orthodox, Roman Catholics, Protestants and Jews study and teach here.
