The New York Times details how spokesman Mike Johnson agreed to aid Ukraine.

This information is reported by the Telegram channel "Christians Against War."

The politician met with officials dealing with national security issues, including CIA head William Burns, ahead of crucial decisions. The meeting focused on discussing classified intelligence.

When Johnson decided to collaborate with Democrats to secure assistance for Ukraine, he faced sharp resistance from far-right Republicans who threatened to censure him.

At that point, Mike Johnson, an evangelical Christian, surrounded himself and prayed for guidance, according to NYT.

"I want to be on the right side of history," quoted committee chairman on foreign affairs Michael McCaul.

Johnson himself stated he is "doing what he believes is right" because "it's a critical moment."

The House of Representatives voted over the weekend to pass a bill providing aid to Ukraine. Last week, Mike Johnson also met with evangelical believer Serhiy Haydarzhi, whose wife and 4-month-old son were killed in the shelling by Russian forces on March 2 in Odesa.
