Court Cancells Sale of Land Plot with Building of Synagogue in Uman

The Economic Court of Cherkasy Oblast on December 22 cancelled the sale by the Uman City Council of a land plot of 4 hectares, including the building of a former synagogue.

The Economic Court of Cherkasy Oblast on December 22 cancelled the sale by the Uman City Council of a land plot of 4 hectares, including the building of a former synagogue, to the Megommetr plant upon a law suit of the Cherkasy Regional State administration, Mykola Sukhovyi, the deputy head of the Department of Culture of the Regional State administration, head of the Department on Protection of Cultural Heritage, Museums and on Religious Matters, reported to Ukrainian News

Last August, the Office of the Public Prosecutor of Cherkasy Oblast initiated proceedings with regard to the sale by officials of the Uman City Council of the land plot with architectural monuments to the Megommetr plant in 2007.

The territory of the medieval town, Uman Fortress, former Synagogue of Bratslav Hasidim, where Tsadik Nakhman prayed, are located on the land plot. The plant has been located on that territory since 1957. One of its workshops is located in the former synagogue.
