Activity of Kyivan Patriarchate to resume in Luhansk Oblast

President of the charitable foundation Support for Ukrainian Initiatives, Dmytro Sniehiriov, discussed the activity of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate (UOC-KP) in the Luhansk Oblast with the head of the church, Patriarch Filaret, reports www.religion.in.ua.
 
“The topic was raised about resuming the activity of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate in the Luhansk Oblast of Ukraine, in particular about preparing buildings where registered religious communities in Severodonetsk and Luhansk can conduct services. We renovated the buildings and ensured the opening of the churches the Kyivan Patriarchate,” said Sniegiriov.
 
According to him, he approached the leadership of the UOC-KP with letters from religious communities with requests to resume the services in all the church buildings and proposals to appoint priests of the Kyivan Patriarchate for those churches.
 
“During the discussion, the issue of extending and resuming the activity of the eparchies in the Donetsk and Luhansk oblats was raised. In this regard, we stressed that we would provide assistance in the matters of activity of the church. We discussed opening up a Sunday school and Ukrainian libraries and the activity, moments of achievements and oversight, of the past three years were analyzed. On the whole, it was stressed that the Luhansk region is an integral part of Ukraine and Ukrainian hierarchs should serve there. Services should be resumed in the Luhansk Oblast in the buildings where religious communities are registered and in the buildings which we have built and are being passed to the Kyivan Patrirchate,” stressed Sniehiriov.
