UOC-MP to hold festivities on July 27-28 in Kyiv

On July 27, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church will hold a prayer service on St Volodymyr’s Hill and the religious procession on the central streets of Kyiv with the miraculous icons, and on July 28 a festive Divine Liturgy will take place on the square in front of the Holy Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. According to the Information Center of the UOC, the head of the Synodal Information and Educational Department, Bishop Klyment (Vecherya) spoke at a press conference in UNIAN today.

 

In particular, he reported that on July 27 in Kyiv at St Volodymyr Hill at 13.00 a prayer service will begin led by His Holiness Metropolitan Onuphrius, head of the UOC. “Hierarchs, priests of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and other Local Orthodox Churches will be praying with him. The representatives of the Ukrainian authorities were invited to attend the prayer.

 

In this prayer, tens of thousands of believers from different regions of Ukraine will take part, as well as guests from other countries who will come to the holiday dedicated to the commemoration of the baptism of our land,” the hierarch said. He also informed that 11 wonderworking icons from different corners of Ukraine will arrive to Kyiv to become part of the festivities. After the prayer, a thousands’ people procession with the wonderworking icons will begin: from St Volodymyr’s Hill to the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.

 

On the evening of this day, the Holy Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra will hold the Vigil. During worship, believers will be able to venerate the holy relics, which will be located in the Refectory Church of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. Access will be open until the next evening.

 

On July 28, the day of remembrance of the Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Volodymyr, the Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on the square in front of the Holy Dormition Cathedral. It will start at 09.00.

 

The Information Center of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church opened the accreditation of journalists from the central and regional mass media to the festive events on July 27-28 in Kyiv on the occasion of the Baptism of Rus.
