In the context of recent events in the Orthodox world, disputes over the boundaries of church institutions often arise between the Patriarchate of Constantinople, Kyiv and Moscow. Ukraine accuses Russia of misappropriating the territory of the Kyiv Metropolis. In its turn, Moscow appeals to the fact that the ancient Kyiv Metropolis differs from the territory of modern Ukraine. RISU decided to clarify this topic, getting advice from historians. Based on this research, we prepared an infographic.

UOC-MP Metropolitan asked Putin to pardon Russian criminal leader

Clergy of UOC-MP in Rivne charged with state treason and inciting religious hatred
In Rivne, the SBU (Security Service of Ukraine) interrogated several priests of the Moscow Patriarchate. They are defendants in two criminal proceedings, in particular under the article “state treason”. Over a dozen UOC-MP clergy have been subpoenaed, according to the TSN.

In the Rivne region vandals desecrated the grave of Rabbi Maharsha
Rabbi Maharsha died in the town of Ostrog in 1631, and was buried in the Jewish cemetery. In the 1990s, according to old documents it was discovered his burial place, and later there was built a prayer hall and the tomb restored.

Interdenominational conflict in Ptycha is artificial in nature
The confrontation among the Orthodox community of the village of Ptycha, in Rivne region has artificial roots and can be resolved given the goodwill of both sides of the conflict, according to the members of the expert council of the Department for Religious Affairs and Nationalities of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, who held a two-day meeting in Rivne region. Radio Liberty has reported this.

UOC MP representatives obstruct church burial for ATO soldier in a church of his native village
"In Ptycha there is an ATO soldier, who until recently was considered missing. Everyone knows Mykola Humenyuk's story. We conducted a DNA examination that confirmed - Mykola died ... At a meeting (between representatives of the UOC (MP) and the UOC-KP) someone asked: isn’t Mykola worthy to be exhumated in the village so that the burial service was performed for him in his native temple? Ms. Nina Smogileva, a supporter of the UOC (MP), replied to this: "He’s got what he’s earned,” wrote Alina Dubovskaya.

New development in the confrontation between UOC-KP and UOC (MP) in Ptycha village in Rivne region
On April 2, villagers entered the church on a court ruling to lift an attachment of the church property. Litigation on this case has continued four months. Religious communities of the Moscow and Kyiv Patriarchates pretend to own the temple.

Roman Catholics of Rivne want to repossess their church
The building, erected in 1897, was the church of St. Anthony until 50's of the last century. Then the Soviets destroyed a part of it, including the Baroque spiers, opened there a cinema theatre, and in the 80's – an organ hall. Since Philharmonic is the municipal institution of the Regional Council, the Roman Catholics reached out to the council members to regain possession of the church.

UOC KP members picket Rivne Administration
On January 12, over a hundreds of believers of the UOC-KP in Dubno district of Rivne region demanded that the Regional State Administration recognize as illegal the transfer of the church premises in Ptycha to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) that took place in 1996.
