Crimean Muslims Protest Against Burials at Town Dump

The Muslim cemetery in Old Crimea has a very limited number of burial places left. The authorities propose to bury people in the territory of the town garbage dump. Six years of efforts to obtain a new place for burials have proved fruitless. The Muslim community has run out of patience and the people gathered for a meeting, Crimea.comments.ua reported.

“Both the former mayor and the present one have turned a blind eye on that and are going to expand the cemetery toward the dump. They want to bury us in garbage,” said a local resident.

According to sanitary-epidemiological norms, a dump should be located at least three kilometers away from the town. In Old Crimea, it is located not far from the center, near the cemetery. The administration holds no documents with regard to the site.
