70 thousand pilgrims to attend celebrations of Sheptytskyy’s 150th anniversary in Lviv

From 50 to 70 thousand visitors are expected to come to Lviv to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky.

From 50 to 70 thousand visitors are expected to come to Lviv to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky.

This was announced today at a press conference on the occasion of the celebrations by Bishop Benedict (Aleksiychuk), a journalist of Vgolos reports.

According to thebishop, the celebrations will begin with Hierarchical Divine Liturgy led by Patriarch Sviatoslav.

“The celebrations will begin on July 29 at 10:00 with the opening and consecration of the monument to Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytskyy, which will be attended by state officials and bishops from all Ukrainian dioceses. Further on all visitors will descend into the crypt - a place in the church sanctuary where Metropolitan Andrey was buried to pray for his beatification. Then we will go back to the monument, where His Beatitude Patriarch Sviatoslav and the President of Ukraine will speak to Ukrainian people,” he said.

The celebrations will be concluded by an artistic performance in Lviv opera titled “I’m calling you”.

For the convenience of pilgrims who will be unable to get to the cathedral, the screens will be installed the square in front of the monument to broadcast the liturgy live.
