Russian drone damaged the Patriarchal Cathedral of the UGCC in Kyiv

During the attack, one of the Shahid drones was shot down in the Dniprovskyi district of Kyiv, beside the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ and the residence of the Head of the UGCC. The impact inflicted damage on doors and shattered windows within the cathedral. Moreover, a nearby multi-story building bore even more substantial destruction."

This was reported by the Information Department of the UGCC.

"As a result of the drone attack on Kyiv, six windows in the basement of the Patriarchal Cathedral were damaged. The blast wave shattered the glass panes. The hardware on four cathedral doors was damaged, and door locks were torn off," said Vasyl Bukatyuk, Director of the Construction Directorate at the UGCC Patriarchate.

Besides the cathedral, he highlighted that the Head of the Church's residence also suffered damage: 'The hardware on three doors was affected at both the Patriarchal residence and the Patriarchal curia.'

Additionally, slight damage to the facade of the Patriarchal Cathedral was documented, and fragments of varying sizes from the drone were gathered on its grounds.

'In return for gifts from Saint Nicholas, we'll be receiving unique souvenirs,' remarked His Beatitude Sviatoslav.

As previously reported, on the night of November 25, Russia deployed 75 drones over Ukraine, with 74 being intercepted by air defense systems, over 60 of them flying over Kyiv. The city remained under air alert for more than 6 hours, from 2:37 to 8:45. Thankfully, there were no fatalities, but five individuals were injured. This drone strike stands as the most extensive throughout the entire war.
