Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Radoslaw Sikorski touched on the 70th anniversary of the Volyn tragedy. The minister welcomed the recent appeal of the Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church on the Volyn tragedy, the UGCC Information Department reports.

The minister also expressed his belief that the dialogue on Polish-Ukrainian reconciliation should take place in a spirit of respect for historical truth.

Patriarch Sviatoslav Shevchuk of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church on the 70th anniversary of the Volyn tragedy expressed his belief that relations between the Ukrainian and Polish people should be built in the spirit of reconciliation and forgiveness.

“So our past does not poison our future. Because we are two fraternal peoples, sons of one Catholic Church. And together we must recognize our sins. Together, let us apologize to each other, embrace and build a common European future,” the hierarch said.
