Lviv mayor meets with heads of religious denominations

The mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovyy, met with the heads of religious denominations of the region on March 3.

Among the important issues discussed was cooperation with the authorities in the social sphere. The representatives of the denominations advanced an initiative to establish a Council of Churches in Lviv, which was supported by the mayor.

During the meeting the critical situation regarding payment for natural gas and rent was discussed. The heads of the denominations along with the city authories intend to send to appeal to the Ukrainian president and government for help in solving the problem.

Also during the meeting the proposition to take the icon of the Theotokos of Lviv into the streets of the city during the celebration of the day of the city on May 6-7 was discussed.

The Icon of the Theotokos of Lviv is one of the most interesting and mysterious records of the Ukrainian Church culture. It is symbolical that granting her mercy and maternal care to the city, the Most Holy Theotokos Odigitria has blessed throughout the history all the traditional communities of Lviv with her grace-filled presence. Now the icon remains in the chapel of the Lviv Gallery of Arts.
