    Change of leadership in London Diocese of UGCC

    On September 1, 2019, the Holy Father accepted the resignation of Bishop Hlib (Lonchyna) from the administration of the ruling bishop of the Diocese of London of the Holy Family of the UGCC and the Apostolic Visitator for Ukrainians of the Byzantine rite in Ireland. At the same time, according to Vatican Radio, the Pope appointed Fr Mykola Matviyivsky, the Chancellor of the diocese, to the office of the Apostolic administrator of the diocese.

    I would entrust my own grandchildren to these volunteers in various fields of need

    Ten years of charitable work at St. John’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Newark have taught us many things, but most of all they have taught us to develop a close relationship with the volunteers that we work with, be they here in the United States or overseas. Close interaction gives rise to understanding and deep respect. I coordinate the St. John’s volunteer projects and periodically travel to Ukraine to visit those who help put into motion the dreams that we have for helping the less fortunate in Ukraine.

    UGCC invites faithful to mark 50th anniversary of consecration of St. Sophia Cathedral in Rome

    On September 1, 2019, anniversary celebrations will be held in Rome on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the consecration of St. Sophia Cathedral. On this occasion, His Beatitude Sviatoslav had a video message filmed calling on Ukrainians from the homeland and Diaspora to take part in the celebration of the “Golden anniversary of the Church, which became the heart of the Ukrainian world, the herald of freedom of the Church and people.” It is reported by the Information Department of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.

    Vatican Prefect visits Eastern-Rite Churches in United States

    Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, the Prefect for the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, was in the United States last month, visiting some of the numerous Eparchies (Dioceses) and Eastern Catholic Communities spread throughout the country. The first stage of Cardinal Sandri’s visit began in the city of Chicago, the seat of both a Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy and a Syro-Malabar Diocese. On Friday, the Prefect met with members of the Ukrainian Eparchy of St Nicholas of Chicago, including the Bishop, Venedykt Aleksiychuk. He also visited the Cathedral, as well as the parish of Sts Volodymyr and Olha.

    We are a Patriarchal Church. The Patriarchate is not granted. Patriarchate is a certain way to be together for our Church, which exists in Ukraine and around the world.     Seminarians of St. Sophia Ukrainian Orthodox Theological Seminary Engaged in Missionary Charitable Activities in North Carolina

    With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Daniel, a group of seminarians of St. Sophia Ukrainian Orthodox Theological Seminary of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, who partnered with the Consistory Office of Christian Charity (under the leadership of Protodeacon Ihor Mahlay) traveled for over 750 miles from the Spiritual Center of the UOC of the USA to Waynesville, NC in order to deliver over 200 packages of diapers and clothing to the local North Carolina Haywood County.
