    Metropolitan Archbishop Borys Gudziak takes official lead of Archeparchy of Philadelphia

    The official enthronement ceremony of the new Metropolitan Archbishop of Philadelphia of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Borys Gudziak, took place on June 4 in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Philadelphia, with participation of 50 bishops from the Eastern Catholic, Roman Catholic and Ukrainian Catholic Churches, over a hundred of priests and members of the monastic orders.Bishop Boris became the seventh Metropolitan Archbishop of the Archeparchy (Metropolia) of Philadelphia of the UGCC.

    In Winnipeg, Manitoba, unknown persons desecrated the monument to the Holy Prince Volodymyr the Baptist – they broke off and stole his head. Also, the intruders cut off the cross in the hands of St. Volodymyr. Historian Serhiy Shumylo wrote it on Facebook.

    On May 11, Patriarch Svyatoslav of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church visited schoolchildren of Our Ukrainian School in Philadelphia, PA (USA). The Primate had separate meetings with older high school students, with junior students, and with students of middle school age.     Sisters of St. Basil Stories Wanted

    Ninety years ago, three Sisters of St. Basil arrived in Philadelphia in response to the Church’s Call to serve the Ukrainian immigrants. Not knowing a word of English, these young Sisters (the oldest was 30-years-old) courageously and joyfully entered the New World to tackle the overwhelming needs of the Ukrainian immigrants. Many immigrant children were orphaned due to the frequent coal mining accidents in Western Pennsylvania. Others had no work because most were uneducated and spoke no English.
