In the evening of October 23, Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and all Ukraine held a memorial service at the Memorial to the victims of the Ukrainian Holodomor-Genocide of 1932-1933 in Washington.

In the evening of October 23, Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and all Ukraine held a memorial service at the Memorial to the victims of the Ukrainian Holodomor-Genocide of 1932-1933 in Washington. This is reported by the OCU website.

Together with the Primate of the OCU, the prayer was lifted by the local clergy and the Ukrainian community, diplomats and members of the delegation.

At the end of the memorial service, Metropolitan Epifaniy spoke to the audience.

Symbolic bouquets of spikelets and the lampads were laid to the monument.

The construction of the Memorial was made possible due to the adoption of a special law by the US Congress, which was signed by President George W. Bush in 2006. The author of the Memorial project in the form of a massive bronze field of spikelets is an American of Ukrainian descent, Larisa Kurilas. The key idea of the monument is conveyed as the words carved on the pedestal in Ukrainian and English: “Holodomor 1932-1933. In memory of the millions of innocent victims of the artificial famine in Ukraine, planned and committed by Stalin's totalitarian regime.”
