The Ukrainian community in Ljubljana performed divine liturgy and memorial service to honour the victims of the Holodomor of 1932-33 in Ukraine within the framework of the international action “Light a candle of remembrance.”

"The divine liturgy and memorial service for victims of the Holodomor of 1932- 1933 in Ukraine was performed at the initiative of the Embassy of Ukraine in Slovenia and with the assistance of the Cultural Society ‘Ljubljana-Kyiv’ within the framework of the international action ‘Light a candle of remembrance’ On October 24, 2008," the press service of the Embassy of Ukraine in Slovenia reports.

In addition, the participants in the action read out the names of 85 starved to death children from among millions of Holodomor victims.

In course of the event, Ambassador of Ukraine to Slovenia Brodovych drew the attention of those present to the consequences of one of the most terrible tragedies of our time and emphasized that "the whole world should honour those, who gave up their lives protecting the right to free existence of the Ukrainian nation."

In addition, the exhibition "Executed by Famine: Unknown Genocide of Ukrainians" was opened in the premises of the Ukrainian church, ukrinform reports.
