Five Ukrainians killed after An-26 Ukraine Airlines plane crashes in Democratic Republic of Congo

Five Ukrainian citizens have been killed after an An-26 freight plane belonging to Ukrainian Airlines crashed in the Democratic Republic of Congo on December 28, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry’s press service has reported, Interfax-Ukraine informs.

"According to a report from Ukraine's embassy in the Republic of Kenya, on December 28, a Ukrainian Airlines Sirin Company's freight aircraft crashed in the territory of the Democratic Republic of Congo, which had travelled from Entebbe (Uganda) – Pointe Noire (Congo). According to preliminary reports, six crew members died, five of them were Ukrainian," reads a report posted on Wednesday.

Search and rescue work continues at the crash site.

The Ukrainian embassies in Belgium and Kenya have been authorized to take measures to examine the circumstances of the incident, and to bring the bodies of the Ukrainian citizens.
