U.S. congratulates OCU on anniversary of receiving Tomos

The Embassy of the United States of America in Ukraine has congratulated the Orthodox Church of Ukraine on the first anniversary of receiving the Tomos of Autocephaly.

The Embassy of the United States of America in Ukraine has congratulated the Orthodox Church of Ukraine on the first anniversary of receiving the Tomos of Autocephaly.

The U.S. Embassy in Kyiv said this a statement posted on its Facebook page.

"We congratulate the Orthodox Church of Ukraine on the one year anniversary of the Tomos of Autocephaly being granted by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. We reiterate our support for Ukrainians’ ability to worship as they choose, free from external interference," the statement reads.

On January 5, 2019, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew signed a tomos of autocephaly of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. On January 6, the Patriarchal Church of St. George in Istanbul hosted a tomos handover ceremony and a divine liturgy that was concelebrated by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Head of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine Epiphanius.
