Apostolic Nuncio, the Vatican's Envoy in Ukraine Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti commented on the recent appeal of the Vatican permanent representative to the UN Archbishop Bernardito Ausa to the head of the UN, in which he asks the international community to do everything possible to put an end to the conflict in Donbas.

“It is difficult to predict how events will develop after this debate in the UN. It depends on the current sensitive international equilibrium.

The main point is that promoting peace should begin with care for the victims, and not with any other factors. Therefore, the Holy See expresses its solidarity with the nations affected by conflicts and aggression, including hybrid and frozen wars. In addition, the situations where a state destabilizes neighboring states should be avoided.

The provision on Ukraine is quite clear and ends with the requirement to respect the borders of the country and its territorial integrity.

The Nuncio stresses that the priority is to help victims and encourage to seek solutions through dialogue and negotiations.

Undoubtedly, the Holy See and the Pope himself are one of the most active global entities, attracting international attention to the war, which affects Ukraine.”

As reported, the Initiative “Pope for Ukraine” was launched to help Ukrainians afflicted by war. The aid to Ukraine was collected in all churches of Europe. Pope Francis personally allocated the assistance for Ukrainian in the amount of 5 million euros. Pope Francis recently donated 200 thousand euros to support three hundred thousand children and adults who was victims of the recent shelling of Avdiyivka (Donetsk region).
