In his speech during a round table in Rome on February 26, His Beatitude Sviatoslav refuted Russian propaganda disinformation about the civil war in Ukraine as a result of the conflict between Ukrainian- and Russian-speaking citizens.

“This is a war between two projects: between the efforts of the Ukrainian people to build a genuine democratic country and an external project on the return of Ukraine to the totalitarian regime of the Soviet Union. In my opinion, the war in Ukraine is the last imperialist war in Europe and the future of European civilization depends on its consequences,” the Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church stressed.

He also called on the audience for solidarity with Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression and assistance to Ukrainians to build a democratic society.

The round table was held at the initiative of the Secretariat of the Head of the UGCC in Rome. Ambassadors and representatives of the embassies of the Apostolic Capital from Germany, Ukraine, the USA, Hungary, Australia, Poland, Lithuania, Italy, Portugal, France, Belgium, representatives of the State Secretariat of the Vatican, the Pontifical Council for the Unity of Christians, delegates of the Constantinople Patriarchate, academic circles of the papal universities in Rome, leading Vatican scholars and editors of Catholic media in Italy.
