UGCC Head in Solidarity with Those Not Afraid to Speak the Truth

“On behalf of our church, I would like to express great concern about the violence that is spreading across Ukraine against journalists and civic activists. The right to know and to tell the truth is one of the fundamental human rights of a free person,” said Patriarch Sviatoslav Shevchuk of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, commenting on the latest developments concerning the beating of the famous journalist Tetiana Chornovol.

“I want to express my solidarity with those who are not afraid to speak the truth today in Ukraine. Christ says: ‘Know the truth and the truth shall make you free’ (John 8: 32). I hope that the right to speak the truth will remain the right of free citizens of Ukraine. Let us remember the words of the Lord: ‘Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven’ (Mt 5:10),” said the head of the UGCC, the Information Department of the UGCC reports.
