The Association of Ukrainian Youth in Ukraine organized an action “Co-Communion [Soprychastia]” to show spiritual unity with the generations of Ukrainians who suffered from the Great Famine and Terror.

Fast

Everyone who has given their consent to participate in the action undertakes voluntarily to keep strict fasting for 33 hours (from 7 am of 23 November to 4 pm of 24 November). It will be a personal sacrifice of each of us to remember the innocent victims of the famine of 1933. It is very important that this sacrifice should be conscious and not mechanical. Only persons over 18 without medical conditions contradicting such fasting are invited to participate.

Prayer

On 24 November, at 4 pm, the participants of the action will unite spiritually in a joint prayer for the repose of the innocent victims of the famine.

Good Work

During the 33 hours of the action, each participant can do a good deed aimed to help a needy neighbour. It can be alms or donation for an orphanage, etc. Everyone may choose a good work.

The first such action was organized by the Association of Ukrainian Youth of Australia and members of the Ternopil City Union of Ukrainian Youth in Ukraine in 2003. Since that time, the event has been held annually with the participation of not only citizens of Ukraine but also of other countries.

To participate, interested persons are asked to send a letter to [email protected]
