Majority of Ukrainians Consider Holodomor Genocide

According to consolidated results of the polls conducted by the sociological group Rating in 2010-1012, the majority of Ukrainians agree with the statement that the Holodomor of 1932-1933 was a genocide of the Ukrainian people.

According to the consolidated results of the polls conducted by the sociological group Rating in 2010-1012, the majority of Ukrainians agree with the statement that the Holodomor of 1932-1933 was a genocide of the Ukrainian people.

For instance, according to the poll results published by UNIAN, in October 2012, 59% of the respondents agreed with that statement and 22% did not agree. In this regard, 19% have not made up their mind. Sociologists notice fluctuations in the public opinion.

In general, 80% of western, central and northern Ukrainians and over 50% of southern Ukrainians, one third of eastern Ukrainians and one in four residents of Donbass believe it was a genocide. This statement is believed by people of all ages. The largest share of persons who have not made up their mind in this regard is registered with young people (25%). Rural residents tend to agree about this on a larger scale (64%) than urban residents (57%).

The poll was conducted in the form of face-to-face interviews based on a questionnaire.
