Institute of National Memory reborn and changed

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has created the Institute of National Memory as a scientific and research establishment of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has created the Institute of National Memory as a scientific and research establishment of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Kyiv Post reports.

This is stipulated in cabinet decree No. 8 of Jan. 12, 2011.

The main tasks of the institute include:
- providing scientific and analytical support for the formation of state policy on the issues of national memory;
- developing within its powers reasonable recommendations to the government in the sphere of realization of humanitarian policy;
- holding state fundamental, scientific and practical studies of problems of national memory of the Ukrainian people, its influence on the formation of a civil society and the Ukrainian nation;
- carrying out scientific and practical research in the traditions of the Ukrainian people, its fight for freedom and national unity of Ukraine;
- studying tragic events in the history of peoples of Ukraine and participation in the events to perpetuate the memory of their victims;
- participating in scientific and educational work and the educational activity linked to the problems of the national memory of Ukrainian people.

The Education, Science, Youth and Sports Ministry, the Finance Ministry, the Social Policy Ministry were ordered within two months to draw up draft proposals on the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory regarding its material, technical and financial support, as well as regarding the overall number of its employees.

The Ukrainian National Memory Institute, established by the then President Viktor Yushchenko, and headed by the academic of the National Academy of Sciences Ihor Yukhnovsky, was liquidated in December 2010
