Groveling of certain deputies before strangers humiliates the dignity of Ukrainians,” stated Volodymyr Shovkoshytyi, the head of the organization.

This was the politician’s response to the proposal of the deputy head of the Kyiv City State Administration, Vitalii Zhuravskyi, at the session of the committee of the Kyiv City Council on Culture and Tourism of June 6 to rename Mazepa Street into Lavrska [Laura]. Zhuravskyi said that the head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Volodymyr, and Patriarch Kirill of Moscow insist in it.

The street was renamed in honor of Hetman Mazepa in 2007 from the Street of the January Uprising.
