In Parliament on June 5, Bill No. 10221, which foresees significant changes in the procedure for religious organizations to acquire a legal status and which introduces their “dual” registration, will be reviewed.

In Parliament on June 5, Bill No. 10221, which foresees significant changes in the procedure for religious organizations to acquire a legal status and which introduces their “dual” registration, will be reviewed.
As reported by the Institute for Religious Freedom, the bill introduces changes to the Law of Ukraine "On Freedom of Conscience and Religious Organizations," especially to the articles concerning the registration of religious organizations. It foresees complications in the registration procedures in connection with the introduction of “dual” registrations.
Also, the bill complicates the procedure for foreign religious workers to obtain visas. According to the bill, all religious organizations will have to coordinate their activities with the Ministry of Culture, that is, only in Kyiv, contrary to Article 24 of the Law.
During a meeting in May between the president’s representative in the Parliament, first deputy of the Ministry of Justice, representatives of the AUCCRO, and an expert from the Institute for Religious Freedom, the representatives of the denominations told the authorities the AUCCRO’s position, which is that is inexpedient to make any changes to the Law of Ukraine "On Freedom of Conscience and Religious Organizations" without a consensual agreement.
Earlier, President Viktor Yanukovych personally promised the heads of the denominations a principle agreement with them on all the legislative initiatives concerning freedom of religion.Parliament wants to make significant changes to law on freedom of religion
