Patriarch Emeritus Filaret explains why transition of communities from UOC to OCU slows down

Patriarch Emeritus Filaret noted that over 4 months after receipt of the Tomos on autocephaly, over 500 communities had switched to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

Patriarch Emeritus Filaret noted that over 4 months after receipt of the Tomos on autocephaly, over 500 communities had switched to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

Before the runoff of the presidential elections in Ukraine, the process of transition of religious communities to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine slowed down.

Patriarch Emeritus Filaret said it in an interview with Radio Liberty, according to TV Channel 5.

‘’This is true because they thought that the president would be a person who would not support this process of uniting Ukrainian Orthodoxy.” Zelensky stated that he would not interfere in church affairs. And this is good. But if he does not interfere, then the people will choose the Ukrainian Church,” said Filaret.

The patriarch noted that over 4 months after receipt of the Tomos on autocephaly, over 500 parishes of the Moscow Patriarchate changed affiliation to the OCU.

“And this process will continue,” he added.

Patriarch Emeritus Filaret once again refuted the information about the "seizure of churches" that the Moscow Patriarchate disseminates and also reminded that the transition of religious communities from one church to another in Ukraine is regulated by law.
