Council of Churches Passed to President Document with List of Pressing Problems

At the meeting on March 21, the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (AUCCRO) passed to the president of Ukraine an address document, in which the churches and religious organizations draw the attention of the president to modern social challenges regarding the increase of the gap between the rich and the poor in the Ukrainian society, problems of the protection of children, large-scale increase of the prices of goods and utility services, and so on.

“In our opinion, the leadership of the state should take into account this complicated situation during the implementation of pension, housing and other reforms. We are convinced that an effective socioeconomic policy based on the principles of justice and respect for human life is a pledge of preservation of the civil peace and establishment of independence of our state.”

The AUCCRO stressed that there are still many questions in the area of church-state relations that require a weighed approach to their settlement. To ensure better elaboration of these questions and strategic planning of the development of church-state relations, the AUCCRO considers it advisable to “establish a permanent mechanism of interaction between the Presidential Administration and the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations, especially in the format of a standing advisory body.”
