President Yanukovych Promises Equal Conditions for All Denominations

The authorities should ensure equal conditions and possibilities for all the citizens of Ukraine regardless of their religious affiliation, President Viktor Yanukovych said at a meeting on March 21 with the heads of the churches and religious organizations.

“The state should undoubtedly create equal conditions for everyone, ensure that each person receives the attention and respect which he  or she needs,” said the head of the state. He noted that there should be no obstacles for the meeting of the people’s spiritual needs.

The president said that he considers unacceptable the breach of the principle of equality in the question of realization of rights and possibilities of the faithful of various confessions.

The head of the state proposed to hold meetings with the heads of the churches and religious organizations twice a year.

“We are doing together a great thing, we are actually uniting the country,” stated the president. He said  that it is about the joint responsibility for the state of affairs in the country and its development, the presidential press service reported.
