Over the Past 20 Years Ukraine Has Seen 1,700 New Baptist Churches

Victor Kulbich, the general secretary of the Baptist Union of Ukraine, revealed that over the past 20 years God has open the heavens of blessing with 1,700 church plants whose seeds fell on good soil.

Victor Kulbich is the general secretary of the Baptist Union of Ukraine. While at the Baptist World Congress in Hawaii recently, he revealed in an interview with Mark Tronson of the Australian Missionary News IPTV that over the past 20 years God has open the heavens of blessing with 1,700 church plants whose seeds fell on good soil.

Victor has been the pastor of Bethany Baptist Church in the Kyiv suburb of Busha since its beginnings 18 years ago. Kyiv is Ukraine’s capital and largest city, with a population of 5 million – slightly larger than Sydney.

“The centrepieces of our church life at Bethany Baptist are youth and children's ministries,” explained Victor. “I am particularly proud of some of our special projects such as the Village of Hope which caters for the needs of children and orphans, especially those who lack opportunity.”

The wider Baptist work in Ukraine has witnessed an open door of evangelism in the past 20 years; there has been an exponential growth. After the Communist regime, there was a spiritual hunger and thirst throughout Ukraine and the Baptists were eager to fill that terrible void.

The Baptist Union of Ukraine now has a total of 2,700 churches, and Victor Kulbich says that Bethany Baptist alone has seen 8 church plants which are now all functioning with enthusiastic and evangelistic congregations. It has been one of the greatest Christian revivals in European history, equal to anything from the 15th century Reformation.

The future continues to bode well as the Ukraine Baptists have set a target of doubling the number of churches throughout the country over the next 10 years. The focus is on evangelism and discipleship.
