Over 2,500 Ukrainians have been named Righteous Among the Nations, a title conferred on non-Jews who saved Jews from extermination during World War II, Israeli Ambassador to Ukraine Eliav Belotserkovski has said, Interfax-Ukraine informs.

"So far, some 2,573 Ukrainian citizens have been recognized as Righteous Among the Nations… The Yad Vashem Institute is working to find those who were rescuing and those who were rescued," he said during the ceremony of awarding diplomas and medals of Righteous Among the Nations in Kyiv on Monday.

The Israeli diplomat awarded six families who were helping Jews during World War II, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent reported.
