20 Jewish families displaced by Russia's war against Ukraine find new homes near Kyiv

On Sept. 1 in Anatevka near Kyiv, an opening ceremony took place for a special village made up of Jewish people from Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts. They escaped the fighting between Russian-separatist forces and Ukrainian forces, informs KyivPost.

Rabbi Moshe Reuven Asman presided at the ceremony attended by members of parliament, ministers and Israel's Ambassador to Ukraine Eliab Belotserkovsky and other guests. During his speech, Asman told the history behind the name of the village Anatevka - brought from Sholem Aleichems "Fiddler on the Roof."

He said Jews from all over the world contributed to construction of housing for 20 families in three months. Another 76 apartments are slated for long-term living. After the opening ceremony, 20 families received their keys for new apartments in Anatevka.
