The hierarchs exchanged views on the recognition of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, but the final decision is to be adopted at the next extraordinary meeting of the Synod, which will be held on February 18, 2019.

The Church of Cyprus is currently set to act as a moderator between Constantinople and Moscow in order to prevent a split in the Orthodox Church.

According to the Greek media, the hierarchs agreed that “it is impossible to deny the right of 50 million Ukrainians to have autocephaly, while 800,000 Cypriots have their own Church.” The biggest problem encountered by the Cypriot bishops is the considerable financial assistance that some metropolises used to receive from the Russians.

As reported, recently the head of the Church of Cyprus said that he plans to recognize Metropolitan Epifaniy. “There will be a time when Epifaniy will visit Cyprus and concelebrate," said Archbishop Chrysostom.
