Tuesday afternoon Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia starts his third pastoral visit to Ukraine.

Kyr1.jpgTuesday afternoon Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia starts his third pastoral visit to Ukraine. The visit will last from July 20 to 28 and will cover three cities - Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kyiv. During his visit the patriarch will hold the Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Kyiv Cave Monastery, bless the Transfiguration Cathedral in Odesa and the foundation of the church on Yuzhmash plant in Dnepropetrovsk, have an official meeting with the prime minister of Ukraine, and probably with the president.

As Archbishop of Bila Tserkva and Boguslav (UOC-MP) Mitrofan reported during the Kyiv-Moscow video conference, on July 21, after the Transfiguration Cathedral consecration, the patriarch will receive all the necessary transfer documents from the Odesa government. Now the newly restored cathedral is under the authority of the UOC-MP Odesa eparchy.

Also, the head of Russian Orthodox Church plans to meet the city community in Odesa Opera House and visit an orphanage and hospital.

On July 24th Patriarch Kirill will come to Dnepropetrovsk where he will visit the Holy Trinity Cathedral and meet with the eparchy administration. He will also bless the foundation of the church on the territory of “Yuzhmash” (Yuzhny Machine-Building Plant) plant. He also plans to visit the Dnepropetrovsk national university.

On Sunday the patriarch will lead the Divine Liturgy at the Transfiguration Cathedral in Dnepropetrovsk, commemorate WWII soldiers, and visit the city hospital.

On July 25th the patriarch of Moscow arrives to Kyiv. On July 26th the Russian Orthodox Church Synod will be held in Kyiv (issues to be discussed at the synod are not public). As noted the head of the synod information office Volodymyr Legojda, the meeting of the synod will be ordinary and will address internal church affairs and issues of social life.

On July 28th (Baptism of Kyivan Rus Day) Patriarch Kirill will hold a solemn prayer on St. Volodymyr’s Hill (park), visit the monastery, and before his departure, lead a Liturgy on the monastery's Cathedral Square.
