The first Ukrainian plein-air of icon-painters “Window to Heaven. Zarvanytsya 2016” continues now in the Marian spiritual center in Zarvanytsya.

The Plein Air began on January 20 and will end on February 12 - the Feast of the Three Saints, as FrMykola Mediukh told RISU reporter  Volodymyr Moroz.

“Taking part are 10 artists from all over Ukraine: Kharkiv, Luhansk and Volyn, Ternopil, Chortkov. These are professional artists, and four of them are honored artist of Ukraine. Unfortunately, the artists of Rivne and Kyiv failed to come due to illness,” says theproject initiator and manager MykolaShevchuk. “The results will be seen during work, but we can already say something.”

Therefore, the aim of the plein air was to paint the icons that correspond to the canons of the Church and used in worship, said the man.

"In addition to the icons of the Mother of God, we are painting  icons of St Michaelthe Archangel, St Andrew the First-Called, Resurrection,” M. Shevchukthe Archangel. “All of them, and these are icon painted on a 50x70 cm lime boardwill be placed in churches of Ternopil-Zboriv archdiocese.

“We paint icons for our soldiers in the east. These icons are small–the fit well into a soldier's pocket,” the project manager says. “They depict guardian angels, St Michael the Archangel. One cannot say exactly how much of these icons will be painted - but each of us is painting a few.”

These little icons will be brought to the front by the UGCC chaplains. The churches that will receive the larger icons painted during the plein air “Window to the Sky. Zarvanytsya 2016”will be determined by the archdiocese leadership.
