Nearly 40 thousand Hasidic pilgrims are expected to arrive in Ukraine at the end of September to celebrate the Jewish New year Rosh Hashanah in Uman.

This was reported by the head of the State Emergency Service Mykola Chechyotkin after a meeting with the Israeli delegation, Novoye Vremya reports.

"According to preliminary estimates, from September 23 to October 4, about 40 thousand pilgrims from many countries of the world will take part in the events, the pilgrims will predominantly go through Kyiv, Odesa and Vinnytsia," he said.

In Uman, which is the pilgrims' destination, and in Cherkasy region, the law enforcement officers will be on duty in the intensive security regime;  a medical helicopter of SES will be used to address emergency issues by medical air transport.

Hasidic pilgrims come to Uman every year to celebrate the Jewish New year.

Celebrations in Uman are due to the fact that tzadik (righteous man) Nachman is buried there, and his grave — one of the most revered shrines and a place of pilgrimage for representatives of the Bratslav movement of Hasidism.

On the night of Rosh Hashanah, they begin celebration as provided for by the Torah (Jewish religious law) - jointly and exuberantly. It is on this day that, according to Jewish beliefs, the Almighty inscribes the name and future in the Book of Life.
