Over a hundred people from 30 eparchies of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate, as well as visitors from Moscow and the Polish Orthodox Church, came to Lviv to participate in the 7th Festival of Orthodox Mass Media. The event will last for five days and is to end on May 31.

In his opening address, Administrator of UOC-MP, Metropolitan Antonii (Pakanych) of Boryspil of the UOC-MP said that the cooperation between the church and mass media has its specifics, but it should mainly be aimed at witnessing for Christ.

"The world is changing and one should speak to people in the language which they understand," he said.

The metropolitan reminded that Ukraine will soon celebrate the 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of the Kyivan Rus and many believers' attitude toward the event will depend on the way the media cover it.

"This puts a great responsibility on us. It is important that the milestone anniversary should become not only an occasion for celebration. We should make a maximum effort to use the celebration as a time for us think about the meaning of life, encourage us to reconceptualize our attitude toward our neighbor. The decisive role here will be played by mass media,” said the metropolitan.

The program of the festival includes meetings with hierarchs of the UOC-MP, priests and active lay people. Deputy Hanna Herman will also speak at the event.
