    Eight wooden Ukrainian churches included in UNESCO list in 2013

    Eight wooden Ukrainian churches, four in Lviv region, two in Ivano-Frankivsk region, and two in Transcarpathian region, have been chosen to be put on the UNESCO World Heritage list, a the leading researcher of the Ukrzakhidproectrestavratsia Institute in Lviv, Vasyl Slobodian, has told the Dzerkalo Tyzhnia newspaper.

    Construction moratorium approved for St. Sophia Cathedral buffer zone

    The Kyiv City Council has approved a moratorium on construction in the buffer zone of the St. Sophia Cathedral. According to the resolution, which was adopted on Thursday, construction is prohibited on all streets surrounding the national reserve until an appropriate detailed plan is approved for the development of the territory of the buffer zone.

    Icon stolen 27 years ago from Armenian Church returned to Lviv

    On July 12, an icon from the mid-16th century, which 1.5 years ago was found in Switzerland, was brought to Ukraine. This icon of the Protection of the Virgin Mary was stolen from Lviv in 1984, said collector and philanthropist Ihor Voznyakov, who assisted in transporting and purchasing the icon from another collector.
