The exhibition is dedicated to the memory of Maximilian Goldstein – cultural figure of Galicia of the early XX century. According to the organizers, he stood at the origins of creation of the first collections of Judaica in Ukraine and the problems of preserving Jewish culture and its spreading.

On May 15, Lviv History Museum opened an exhibition “Jewish Heritage Rarities” as part of festival “LvivKlezFest-2017.” It was reported by Dyvys Info.

 

The exhibition is dedicated to the memory of Maximilian Goldstein – cultural figure of Galicia of the early XX century. According to the organizers, he stood at the origins of creation of the first collections of Judaica in Ukraine and the problems of preserving Jewish culture and its spreading.

 

“We are very pleased that the Jewish music festival begins with the opening of this exhibition, said Tetiana Lozova, the museum’s scientific employee. “The exhibition features more than 150 unique curiosities. They come from the collections of our historical museum, the Museum of the History of Religion, the National Voznytsky Gallery of Arts, Lviv Stefanik National Academic Library and private collections.”

 

Among the rarities that are on display - wooden sculptures of 17-18 centuries “Lions-Jews” which adorned Torah Ark in the synagogue “Golden Rose”; decorated marriage contracts from Italy, dating back to the 18th century, graphics of Jan Pivarsky and more.

 

On May 15, IX Festival of Jewish music also started in Lviv.
