Unique 12th Century Icons Discovered Near Rivne

Near the former capital of the Peresopnytsia Principality, in Rivne Region, archeologists discovered two small icons of the 12th century which were worn on the neck.

Near the former capital of the Peresopnytsia Principality, in Rivne Region, archeologists discovered two small icons of the 12th century which were worn on the neck.

According to Unian.net, the icons were found at the site of reconstruction of a fragment of the ancient Rus settlement.

The small icons were worn as crosses. On one of them St. George is depicted and on the other, gilded one the Mother of God with baby Jesus. According to the experts, the icons are unique. They will become exhibits of a museum which is being established.

As reported earlier, in the Village of Peresopnytsia, fragments of the ancient Rus settlement and a cultural center are being constructed. There will be a museum of the Ukrainian old print of the Peresopnytsia Gospel and an archeological center there.
