    OSCE gathered officials and experts to discuss religious freedom in Ukraine

    Strengthening cooperation of the government with religious organizations is an important component of national security. The international conference, which takes place May 26-27 in Kyiv, addresses these and some other issues of church-state relationship. It has been organized by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, Department for Religions and Nationalities along with the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights.

    UOC KP Synod appeals to UAOC: Patriarch Filaret must lead the unified Church

    On May 12, the Holy Synod of UOC-KP heard a statement by the UAOC Bishops' council on the association of the UAOC with the UOC KP into one church. In the Statement, as RISU has already reported,the UAOC officially declared its desire to start a real process of associationwith the UOC-KP and submitted a proposal to keepits historical name of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church and the UAOC dioceses and rural deans’ districts.

    A group of believers in Bashuky, Ternopil region, moves from the UOC (MP) to the UOC-KP

    270 signatures in favor of transition of the religious community from the UOC (MP) to UOC-KP have been collected in Bashuky village, Kremenets district. Thus, another Orthodox community is in the process of division, because not all of its members want to leave the UOC (MP), reports RISU journalist Volodymyr Moroz.

    Odessa officially joined the Pan-European Day of mourning and remembrance

    Fallen soldiers were prayerfully commemorated in Odessa, on the Walk of Fame. Exactly at midday, May 8, heads of various denominations gathered together in prayer. The authorities came to listen to it at the Tomb of the Unknown sailor, along with simple Odessa residents, whoheld tulips, daffodils and lilacs in their hands in order to put them to the Eternal Flame and the improvised Memorial to the Heaven’s Hundred, as reportedby RISU journalist Anna Voloshyna.

    Regular interfaith prayer for peace and for the victims among Christians held in Kyiv

    Traditional Prayer for Peace, initiated by the Community of Sant'Egidio was held on 8 April in the capital Roman Catholic Cathedral of St. Alexander. The prayer service was attended by clergy of the Roman, Greek Catholic and Lutheran churches, and faithful of various denominations.

    A ten-person delegation organized by the World Council of Churches (WCC) visited Ukraine from 17 to 20 March, reporting that “the delegation has heard a consistent call for the World Council of Churches and the ecumenical movement to inform the international community about the situation in Ukraine, to promote a more adequate humanitarian response to the human suffering resulting from the conflict, and to support and strengthen the efforts of the churches and faith communities of Ukraine for justice and peace.”
