Metropolitan Emmanuel of France, responsible for the issuance of the Tomos to Ukraine, made this statement after the meeting of the two hierarchs. This is reported by a journalist from Hromadske.

“…the Church that is strong, and it is the Church that has possibilities throughout the world. Here, the Ecumenical Patriarchate, with a long life and experience of the first Church in the Orthodox Church family has a special role, and this is why the decisions, and also the solutions sometime, come from here. The main question that was also discussed was the question about the situation in Ukraine.

As you know there has been a schism for over 25 years in Ukraine and the Ecumenical Patriarchate took the decision of exploring all the ways to issue the autocephaly to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. This is the decision that was taken in April and we are implementing already this decision, and this was also reported to Patriarch Kirill during his visit today by the Ecumenical Patriarchate.”

The hierarch emphasized that the issue of overcoming the Church split in Ukraine remains a key concern for the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

The talks between Patriarch Bartholomew and Patriarch Kirill lasted two hours and a half.
