Construction of a new synagogue was launched in Sevastopol. UNIAN reported with reference to the press Secretary of the Chief Rabbi of Sevastopol, Borys Nesterenko. The declaration of the start of the construction was submitted on 21 November, 2011. Since then, preparatory works have been done, permanent service lines removed from the site and temporary ones installed. The site is fenced. The foundation pit is being dug.

According to Nesterenko, it has been the first such construction since the time before the war when there were 5 synagogues in the city. Since the appointment of Beniamin Wolf the Chief Rabbi of the community of the traditional Judaism in 2004, the synagogue has been located in a rented building. The construction is financed by sponsors and is to be completed in a year. It will be a 3-storied building of 1 thousand square meters.

According to the press Secretary, it is prohibited to count the believers in Judaism, but on religious festivals, about 1 thousand persons gather.
