Kyiv City Council considers draft moratorium on construction in Kyiv's historical areas

According to the statement, the secretary of the Kyiv City Council thinks that construction in the historical areas of Kyiv, especially in the preserved area of the St. Sophia Cathedral National Reserve, is unacceptable.

A draft moratorium on construction in the preserved areas of the capital is being considered by Kyiv City Council, the press service of the city council reported referring to an interview of its secretary Oles Dovhy with Ukrainian television's Fifth Channel, the Kyiv Post reports.

According to the statement, the secretary of the Kyiv City Council thinks that construction in the historical areas of Kyiv, especially in the preserved area of the St. Sophia Cathedral National Reserve, is unacceptable.

Dovhy said that the city council is planning to introduce zoning of the capital as soon as possible.

"We will approve a new general plan of the city, in which separate districts will be listed the holiest of holies, where reconstruction must be carried out in compliance with the architectural norms and the architectural style that we have managed to preserve to modern times," he said.

The press release also reads that Dovhy noted two deputies' decisions banning construction in the preserved area around St. Sophia Cathedral - on the stoppage of construction and a moratorium on any construction actions around this facility.
