hram2.jpgexklusiv.gifFor the first time, in Ukraine, a Church of St. Peter the Long-Suffering (Kalnyshevskyi) will be opened. The construction of the church is being completed in the village of Nedryhailiv, Sumy Oblast. In 2008, the last commander of the Cossack camp was beatified.  The day of Peter the Long-Suffering is marked on the Day of Protection of the Holy Mother of God, the Patroness of Cossacks.  His name is included in the Orthodox Church calendar, and the Local Council of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate (UOC-KP) gave its blessing for the construction of churches in his honor.

The church's dome crosses and five domes have recently been consecrated by Bishop Mefodii of Sumy and Okhtyrka of the UOC-KP and the clergy of the Nedryhailiv, Romna, Konotop, and Sumy Eparchies.

hram1.jpgOur RISU correspondent, Iryna Stehnii, learned from the senior priest of the Church, Fr. Vasyl, that when the cornerstone of the church was laid, it was decided that it will bear the name of that outstanding saint and two other saints. "The church has three altars; therefore, the two side altars bear the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker for in 1950s, a Church of St. Nicholas and the Holy Great Martyr Barbara was destroyed nearby," reported Fr. Vasyl.

The Cathedral is built in the ancient Cossack style and resembles the architecture of Mgarskyi Cossack Monastery.
