He considers the soccer championship a good opportunity for a positive manifestation of emotions. The priest saw the joy of many with my own eyes when he watched one of the matches in Lviv’s fan zone.

"I watched the match between the Ukrainian and Swedish national teams in Lviv’s fan zone. The atmosphere in Lviv is great. In the last few years the city both subconsciously and consciously prepared for this event. And it is very open to its residents and guests,” Father Gudziak told RISU.

The rector expressed his optimism in the advancement of the Ukraine’s national team and that they will continue to show their strength.

"I pray for the countries, teams, players, fans so that the true passion for the game and this international arena becomes a pretext for a good meeting, for a positive emotional relief from stress and tension," added Father Gudziak.

The rector of UCU hopes that Euro 2012 will give people not only good matches but also a sense of closeness, true unity and joy.

"We are created in the image and likeness of God, and therefore we are called upon to communicate and have relationships. So I expect a lot of interaction among the people. In our stadium there will be 22 players, a flying ball – this phenomenon will elicit rather powerful human emotions – both positive and negative. This will be observed in the tens of thousands of people who are in our city and in Ukraine. When people from different cultures and with different mentalities meet, it has potential for creativity. Why do millions of people love sports? Because it is an easy way to explain the metaphor of human life – personal and collective competition for excellence," said the priest.
