In Ukraine, “Just Orthodox” and Greek Catholics prevail, - survey results

According to the results of a sociological study for 2019 conducted by the Razumkov Center, the percentage of those who call themselves "Just Orthodox" is growing among Orthodox Ukrainians.

According to the results of a sociological study for 2019 conducted by the Razumkov Center, the percentage of those who call themselves "Just Orthodox" is growing among Orthodox Ukrainians. If in 2016, 21.2% of respondents recognized themselves as such, in 2018 they were 23.4%, and in 2019 - 30.3%.

The results were presented at a Round table in Kyiv on November 14. In General, as of 2019, 64.9% of respondents identified themselves as Orthodox, 9.5% as Greek Catholics, 1.8% as Protestants, 1.6% as Roman Catholics, 8% as simply Christians, other religions represent less than 1 percent.

With that, compared to 2016, the percentage of Orthodox and Protestants did not change — it was 65.4% and 1.9%, respectively, but the percentage of Greek Catholics (was 6.5%), as well as Roman Catholics (was 1%), increased significantly.

Among the Orthodox 13.2% identified themselves as the faithful of the OCU, 7.7% of the UOC-KP (in 2016 it was 25%), 10.6% with the UOC-MP (2016-15%), 3.1 % are undecided. That said, only in the West, the percentage of the faithful of the OCU is more than that of "Just Orthodox" - 18,6% and 12,3% respectively. In the Center, in the South and in the East, the number of those who call themselves "Just Orthodox" is significantly higher - 34.2%, 36.5% and 37.7%, respectively.

Among the confessionally identified Orthodox in the Center of Ukraine, the faithful of the OCU prevail (17.8%), the faithful of the UOC- MP consitute 8.7%, and those who identify themselves as the UOC-KP are 9.6%. In the South and East of Ukraine, the faithful of the UOC-MP prevail - 10.8% and 15.2%, respectively, while the faithful of the OCU account for 8.3% and 3.9%, those of the UOC-KP - 8.7% and 6.6%, respectively. However, if the faithful of the OCU and the UOC-KP are counted together in the South, their number will be higher than that of the faithful of the UOC-MP, that is, 17% and 10.8%, respectively.
