Majority of Orthodox Ukrainians identify themselves as OCU faithful

The vast majority of Ukrainians who consider themselves Orthodox faithful claim allegiance to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, led by Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine.

The vast majority of Ukrainians who consider themselves Orthodox faithful claim allegiance to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, led by Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine.

This is evidenced by the results of a sociological survey jointly conducted by the Social and Marketing Research Center Socis; Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) and the Razumkov Center, Ukrinform has reported.

So, according to the results of the survey, 70.7% of the respondents identified themselves as Orthodox. Of these, 43.9% position themselves as supporters of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, led by Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine.

38.4% of respondents who consider themselves Orthodox do not claim affiliation with any particular denomination.

15.2% of the Orthodox respondents claim affiliation with the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate, 2.5% - undefined or failed to answer this question.

According to the survey results, 8.8% of all respondents consider themselves simply Christians, 6.9% - Greek Catholics, 1.3% - Roman Catholics, 1% - Protestants and Evangelists. 9.5% of the polled do not practice any religion. 0.8% - were unable or refused to report their religious affiliation.

The study was conducted from January 16 to 29, 2019. A total of 11,000 respondents were interviewed in all regions of Ukraine (excluding the population of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts). The statistical error of the study is 0.9%. The survey was conducted by means of a personal formalized interview at the place of residence of the respondents.
