Сандей.jpgKYIV – A group of former pastors, ministers, and members of the Embassy of God community published an open address to "the heads of the Christian Evangelical churches of Ukraine and the whole international Christian community about the activity of Sunday Adelaja." In the address, the former confidants of the pastor analyze the situation regarding King's Capital, financial and political problems in the Embassy of God, and the authoritarian governing of Sunday Adelaja. RISU's Ukrainian-language web site posted this story on April 22, 2010.

According to the authors of the address, "Several thousand people suffered from the activity of financial structures (King's Capital Ltd, Leone Bank, private company Grant, etc.) that appeared in the community as a result of Sunday Adelaja’s teaching, words, and actions."  According to the address, many of them risk losing their own homes and are in a very difficult spiritual, moral and psychological, and material condition. In addition, several investor victims committed suicides.

"Having the trust of the members of the Embassy of God, Sunday Adelaja many times used the church pulpit for propaganda of the company King's Capital, personally guaranteed its reliability and decency, repeatedly called the people from the stage to pawn their apartments and bring the money to King's Capital," reads the address.

The former ministers of the community also stress that Adelaja was informed of the real state of affairs of King's Capital, which was already not able to pay the interest to the investors. However, he did not warn the people but continued to actively advertise the company during services.

According to the former supporters of Adelaja, in the services and mass media “he openly uses the names of certain notable politicians as a shield,” and that he states that he reached an agreement with the current authorities as to closing of the criminal case against him.

The authors of the address state that "Sunday Adelaja artificially creates a myth about a political order against his person, uses methods of manipulation and distortion of information in mass media to justify himself and raise his rating in the eyes of the international community."

According to the address, a cult of personality was created by Sunday in the "Embassy of God" and he himself "uses methods of tough authoritarianism, manipulation, and intimidation of ministers who do not agree with his policy."  The document also describes force and spiritual and psychological pressure on the parishioners when they were "actively encouraged to give promises-testaments (memorandums) to donate large amounts of money for the construction of the Ukrainian Spiritual and Cultural Center, which never began.”

"The members of the Apostolic and Spiritual Councils of the Embassy of God had no information about the amounts and location of the funds raised during all the years as Sunday Adelaja alone manages the finances of the Embassy of God. "Today many churches and individual ministers left the Embassy of God or are deeply disappointed and are in the process of making this decision," said the authors of the address.

The former ministers of the Embassy of God also state that they do not deny responsibility for the events in the community, express sincere condolences, repentance and ask Christians to pray for people who suffered losses due to the activity of King's Capital and other financial structures, and for the spiritual healing of the members of the community and the repentance of Adelaja.
