The 58-year-old Abbot of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, Metropolitan Pavlo (Lebid) of the UOC-MP, was found to have a coronavirus. This was reported by two sources in the Metropolitan's entourage to Religiyna Pravda (Religious Truth).

Three days ago, the Metropolitan felt sick, and later he was diagnosed with coronavirus disease COVID-19.

It should be noted that a few days ago, Pavlo held a service attended by the head of the UOC MP, Metropolitan Onufriy, Metropolitan Anthony (Pakanych) of the UOC MP, an oligarch and MP of the "Opposition Bloc" Vadym Novinsky.

The First Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Serhiy Trofimov, who is responsible for the religious issues, was also attending.

Earlier, Metropolitan Pavlo criticized the Ukrainian government for suggesting that religious rites should be restricted during quarantine due to the spread of coronavirus.

In his address to the faithful, the Abbot of the monastery called for frequent visits to churches, since the cause of the outbreak of coronavirus, in his opinion, is "human sin".

On April 4, the official website of the Lavra reported that the clergy of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra were tested for coronavirus.

Metropolitan Pavlo passed laboratory tests and medical examinations together with all the rest of the clergy, but he had no complaints about his health.

Later on April 4, the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra issued a notice about its lockdown for quarantine. From now on, all services will be held exclusively in a closed mode without the admission of believers.
