The UOC-KP supports the introduction of a fair pension reform in Ukraine, as the current system is obsolete and does not meet social needs and the state of the economy and demography.

The press center of the Kyiv Patriarchate said this in its recent statement.

The UOC-KP note that millions of our compatriots live today at the expense of pension payments. These funds are the only source of income and the opportunity to live.

“Therefore, we call on everyone, from whom depends on the decision-making, in particular Parliament and the Government, to take the utmost care of these people's needs. Remember the guidance of God: “As you want people to do, you also do them” (Luke 6, 31),” the document says.

“The Church does not interfere with the direct decision-making process regarding the pension reform, because it is a matter and the responsibility of state bodies, first of all Parliament and Government, as well as specialists. However, we strongly support the urgent need for reform of the pension system. Its outcome should be to raise the level of support for retirees, establish a fair link between the size of the pension and the volumes, length and complexity of the work done by the pensioner. Also, the pension system should have a more stable and predictable view, so that those who now deduct some of their pay, were sure of decent old age,” according to the Kyiv Patriarchate.
