On June 6, 2010, Archbishop Ihor (Isichenko) of the UAOC of Kharkiv and Poltava during the Sunday service blessed the intention to initiate the referendum.

The press service of the Kharkiv regional organization of the All-Ukrainian Association Svoboda posted the official statement of the UAOC. The statement reads in particular: “The conflict over the mass destruction of tress, which began on the eve of the Pentecost in the largest Kharkiv park, is gaining increasingly more social attention. It already demonstrated the lack of tolerance and mutual understanding in the relations between various social groups, their lack of readiness to start a dialogue, made one doubt the respect of the municipal authorities and police for civic rights of every resident of Kharkiv regardless of his property status and political views.”
